Adoptee Citizenship Act

The 2000 Child Citizenship Act (CCA) was passed by the US legislature according to those under the age of 18 automatic citizenship, however, the CCA created a pernicious loophole. Those who were over the age of 18 at the time of the CCA passing, their right to citizenship was excluded, leaving many adoptees in legal limbo.

The Adoptee Citizenship Act (ACA) of 2021 aims to close this loophole and grant all adoptees, regardless of their date of birth, US citizenship. The act was introduced in March of 2021 and has gained bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. Recently, the ACA was added as an amendment to the America COMPETES Act of 2022 and passed through the House. If passed through the Senate and enacted into law, the ACA would grant retroactive citizenship to all those who were left out of the 2000 CCA.

Please join us in urging Congress to pass this critical legislation now. Visit https://www.adopteesforjustice.org/adoptee-citizenship-act to send a letter of support to your Congress Members today!
